On a clear, crisp Colorado in 1964, my father took me to the local music store in downtown Colorado Springs to purchase my first clarinet. From that moment on, I was hooked – working with wind instruments became a lifelong passion. Musical instruments are works of art, and I have always felt that they are close to each player’s heart and soul. Seeing the happiness and joy of a player who has had their instrument handled with care and restored to be played again is why I love doing this.
Being a Horn Doctor is a lot like being a bit of “Sherlock Holmes, plumber, welder, chemist, jeweler and craftsman of sorts.” I spent more than 20 years developing my craft and learned the trade by apprenticing with a master band instrument repairman. When retiring from 20-plus years of sitting in front of a computer in the corporate world, I decided to start up my business again here in McMinnville, Oregon.
I am actively involved with the local music community, playing in the McMinnville Second Winds Community Band. I also have a passion for composing with a CD published with my piano compositions and two symphonic world premiers with Broomfield Colorado Symphony.
My shop is by appointment, so give me a call at 415-265-1219 or use the contact me form. When not fixing horns, I spend time with my wife, Leah and Sadie, our cat.
